Discover and appreciate the rock-soil-water interrelationships that sustain plants, animals and us. Be led to feel the spiritual and healing qualities of Silver Wattle land.
View over Silver Wattle and Weerewa (Lake George)
Meet the soils, rocks and landscape features around Silver Wattle, including the ephemeral Weereewa (Lake George). We will listen to what the landscape and rocks are willing to tell us about how they were formed, their journeys to and across the earth’s surface and where their journey may take them next. We will observe how plants are uniquely adapted to different parts of the landscape, visiting a mother tree, elder trees and the shoreline-adapted wetland species. We will use our senses and bodies to respond to and record our understandings of this unique landscape. Silver Wattle respects plant adaptations to the landscape, and our new plantings reflect this.
This residential retreat will be hosted by Anne Felton and Peri Coleman
ANNE FELTON is a retired geologist with 45 years of experience in listening to the stories of rocks, soils and landscapes. She first studied the geology of the Silver Wattle region in the 1970s. Since the early days of Silver Wattle, she has been drawn to a more contemplative and respectful appreciation of this land's unique and special aspects. In return the rocks and soils in this landscape have shared more of their stories with Anne.
In Quaker membership since 1991, Anne attends Bega Valley Recognised Meeting, part of Canberra and Region Quakers, and is part of the Silver Wattle community.

PERI COLEMAN is a (officially) retired salt marsh and salt lake botanist, whose work continues to find her in open landscapes with the giant bowl sky as her companion. The plants that draw her interest include the many tiny species that call ephemeral waters home. A member of North Adelaide Local Meeting in the South Australia and Northern Territory Regional Meeting, Peri first visited Silver Wattle in 2017, and has been drawn back to the lake, alluvial fans and escarpment in seasons of dusty, droughted summer, frost-dressed, still winters, and tumultuous wave-washed springtime
