Sink Down to the Seed

Led by Sheila Keane & Drew Thomas

“Give over thine own willing… and sink down to the seed which God sows in thy heart… and thou wilt find by sweet experience that God owns that… and will bring it to the inheritance of life which is its portion.” – Isaac Pennington

Pennington’s quote forms the backbone of this 6-day course, which was designed for those drawn to contemplative/ faith-led ministries, or who are actively seeking to discern their own calling in life. The course is open to non-Quakers as well as Friends.

The course will guide participants through a process of letting go, entering deeply into prayer, becoming attentive to leadings, and forming strategies to live into the Light they have been given. It will include formal teaching, group and individual reflection, quiet contemplation, and support with the discernment process.

Sheila Keane has been active in Quaker education and spiritual nurture for many years, including developing the Australian ‘Quaker Basics’ course. Sheila completed a 2 year spiritual formation program through Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s “School of the Spirit” in 1997. She is currently convener of the Silver Wattle Program & Learning Committee and is co-clerk of Hunter Valley Local Meeting.

Drew Thomas deeply values our Quaker practice of inward reflection leading to outward action. He has been an educator and counsellor in both secondary and TAFE settings, and remains a committed career developer. He is currently a facilitator in preparation for the Centre for Courage and Renewal, which offers programs developed from the work of Parker Palmer.

Cost:  SWQC offers a sliding scale for the 6 day courses, to assist those who are unable to pay the standard registration rate

  • Standard registration (we hope most people will pay this amount) $699

  • Supporting registration (supports others so they can also attend) $759

  • Concession (for those who are on minimal incomes) $659

Note that Quakers may also seek support from their Local Meeting or Regional Meeting. Funds are set aside for this, so don’t be shy – it is an investment in the spiritual health of the Meeting.
